![]() Southern Shores Pitts Center Southern Shores, North Carolina The four-thousand square foot Pitts Center originally served as a training center for hurricane-resistant construction and hazard mitigation. In addition, it was designed through the use of cutaways to illustrate details which strengthen buildings against storm damage. The design challenges included accommodating the necessary functions, details and materials while avoiding a "checkerboard" effect, and giving opposite sides of the building commercial and residential characteristics. Construction management required incorporation of a wide array of donated materials. The building is currently in use as a meeting hall for the Southern Shores Commissioners and other town meetings. |
